AUSTINTOWN

Nordson Corp. considered many locations nationally before it settled on an Austintown location to house three of its operations.

“We selected the Austintown location for a variety of factors, including logistics, potential incentives, and available labor pool for future growth,” Jim Jaye, senior director of corporate communications for Nordson, said in a statement.

The building, at 375 Victoria Road, used to house Tamarkin, a Giant Eagle retail support center for frozen foods.

A labor dispute led Giant Eagle to shut down Tamarkin last year. Operations ceased in May 2015.

Over the next 18 months, Nordson will work to complete the transition of moving three of its operations to the new location in Austintown.

Nordson’s Boardman operation at 8469 Southern Blvd., as well as its other screw and barrel operations in New Castle, Pa., and Pulaski, Va., are the selected locations slated for the transition.

Nordson, of Westlake, Ohio, engineers, manufactures and markets differentiated products and systems used for the precision dispensing of adhesives, coatings, sealants, biomaterials, polymers, plastics and other materials.

Nordson purchased its Boardman facility in 2012.

Nordson’s move to relocate all three operations to one is expected to bring new jobs to the Mahoning Valley. At the Austintown facility, 260 will be employed. Some positions already are filled, but Nordson said it will recruit for new positions not filled by current employees.

To prepare the building, Nordson will invest in “upgraded bi-metallic processing and machining systems to manufacture world-class screw and barrel products for plastic injection molding and extrusion processes,” Jaye said.

The company is expected to receive state and local tax incentives, which have not been finalized.
