Man arraigned
YOUNGSTOWN
Fred Lee Lewis III, 20, of West Glenaven Avenue, is in the Mahoning County jail on $15,000 bond after he was arraigned Monday in municipal court before Magistrate Anthony Sertick on a charge of felonious assault and domestic violence.
Reports said Lewis was arrested about 12:45 a.m. Saturday at his home after police responded to a report of a woman being beaten, and found a woman there who had cuts and bruises on her head and face.
Lewis also gave police a false name, reports said. As part of his bond, Lewis is to have no contact with the victim.
Warren council to meet

Drug treatment OK’d
WARREN
A judge has allowed Tracy A. Gogel, a former Warren schools home-economics teacher, to receive drug treatment with the potential to have her drug charge dismissed in a year.
Gogel, 47, of Cuyahoga Falls, is charged with deception to obtain a dangerous drug, a felony that could produce a prison sentence of up to 18 months.
But Judge Peter Kontos of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court determined Monday that Gogel is eligible for treatment. If she is successful in the program, charge can be dismissed. She resigned from the school district in May.
She has been charged with drug offenses three times in the past couple of years.
Six OVI arrests made

Mahoning County Operating a Vehicle Impaired Task Force officers and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers made six OVI arrests over the weekend.
Checkpoints at South Avenue at Lowe’s and U.S. Route 224 at Marinthana Avenue on Saturday night and Sunday morning yielded 12 summonses for driving with a suspended license, driving without a license, open container and drug abuse; six citations for prohibited window tint, seat-belt violations, expired license plates, not having two license plates and failure to abide by the traffic control device; and 10 arrests for OVI, using weapons while intoxicated, obstructing official business, drug abuse and having an outstanding warrant for fleeing and eluding, obstructing official business and theft.
Neighborhood meeting

The Garden District Neighborhood Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. today in Colonial Hall of St. John Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Ave.
President Jerry O’Hara will preside, and Councilman Mike Ray, D-4th, will give an update of activities on the West Side. Guest speaker will be Andrew Pratt, gardens director of Mill Creek MetroParks Fellows Riverside Gardens.
Man faces charge

A Salem man will be arraigned today in Mahoning County Area Court before Judge Joseph M. Houser facing a charge of operating a vehicle while impaired.
Police stopped Levi Hively, 29, of Salem-Warren Road, at a sobriety checkpoint on South Avenue at 10:53 p.m. Saturday. A breath test registered Hively’s blood-alcohol content at 0.246 percent, three times over the state legal intoxication limit of 0.08 percent.
Police also cited him for having an open container and a loaded handgun in his car as well as using weapons while intoxicated.
Arrested at checkpoint

A Warren man will be arraigned today in Mahoning County Area Court here after his arrest at a sobriety checkpoint at 3 a.m. Sunday.
Tyrone Thomas, 42, of Chestnut Street, first evaded police after he reportedly stole $860.50 in merchandise from the J.C. Penney store at Southern Park Mall on Saturday morning. Police pursued him on foot until he entered a U-Haul truck and later lost officers in a vehicle chase.
At a sobriety checkpoint location on Southern Boulevard, police identified Thomas as the suspect and arrested him. He is charged with failure to comply, obstructing official business and theft.
Woman charged
WARREN
Jennah M. Cope, 30, of Benton Street Southeast, was charged with six counts of child endangering and one count of menacing Sunday afternoon.
She pleaded not guilty Monday in Warren Municipal Court. Her bond is $1,000.
Police were called at 7:11 p.m. to her home, where they found suspected marijuana growing and six children from age 5 to 11. While police were arresting her, Cope threatened to kill the person who called police.
Cope said she “doesn’t care that she’s getting arrested” because marijuana “will be legal soon,” police said.
Ohio recently legalized medical marijuana but not recreational marijuana. Trumbull County Children Services was contacted.
Lease for snowplow
HUBBARD
City council approved a lease agreement with First National Bank for the purchase of a snow plow during a Monday night meeting. The city will pay $25,000 each year for five years beginning in 2017.
Council also OK’d a contract with Quasar Energy of Cleveland for sludge hauling and disposal at the water treatment plant in 2017 at $51.96 per ton.
Council also voted to have Hubbard continue as a member of the Trumbull County Combined Health District. Council approved a five-year agreement with the district.
The district provides the city with public health services, and the city pays the district from its general fund at rate not to exceed about $16,208 a year.
Gupta to speak at YSU

Arun Gupta, author and co-founder of the Indypendent and the Occupied Wall Street Journal, will present “Climate Change, Peak Oil and the Age of Extremes” at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Cushwa Hall, Room B100, at Youngstown State University.
