YWCA to host Crash Day for girls Nov. 12
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
YWCA of Youngstown and Oakhill Collaborative will host a Technovation Challenge Crash Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 12 for girls in grades seven to 12 at YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave.
At Crash Day, participants will learn more about Technovation Challenge 2017 by watching the movie “Code Girl” and working on coding using app development software. At the end of the day, participants will be able to sign up for the challenge.
Participants will be taught to build an app. Mentors will assist the girls in identifying a problem in the community, and teach them to build an app to help solve the problem.
Girls will learn entrepreneurial, financial and marketing skills as they work to positively impact the community through app building. Beginning coders are welcome. National finalists will be invited to attend the World Pitch in San Francisco in August.
For information, or to register, contact Jennie at 330-746-6361, ext. 125, or jandrews@ywcaofyoungstown.org. Girls may register individually or as a team. Teams consist of two to five girls. Participants should bring a brown-bagged lunch.
