POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:
GIRARD
Oct. 23
Assault: While responding to a possibly suicidal man in the 200 block of Church Hill Road, authorities charged 25-year-old Rodney A. Helsel with a fourth-degree felony count of assault on a police officer after an officer alleged that when he came to, Helsel, of Ella Street, Girard, pulled him down, causing the accuser to strike his head on a brick wall and sustain two cuts.
Criminal mischief: Someone apparently shot BBs and cracked a vehicle’s windshield, then made a hole in a front window to a residence in the 300 block of Ohio Avenue. Damage to the car and home came to $750.
Oct. 24
Theft: A woman reported her father’s wallet containing $100 to $150 stolen in the 200 block of Taylor Avenue.
Burglary: To a home in the 60 block of Cheyenne Drive through an unlocked sliding-glass door. Three diamond rings were missing, for an estimated $18,000 loss.
Oct. 25
Arrest: Youngstown police handed to Girard authorities Sidney N. Fields, 22, of East Florida Avenue, Youngstown. She was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Arrest: Police in the 50 block of Abbey Street picked up 30-year-old Shane E. Thompson of Salt Springs Road, Warren, who was wanted on a warrant.
LIBERTY
Oct. 21
Arrest: Antonio Hawthorne of Linwood Avenue, Youngstown, was taken into custody at the Mahoning County jail. Hawthorne, 46, was wanted on Girard Municipal Court warrants charging him with receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violations.
Stolen property: An official with Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave., reported a 38-year-old Greenville, Pa., woman had cashed a $961 payroll check that later was returned as having been forged. Also, the official learned that several checks had been stolen from a Pennsylvania company, then passed in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Oct. 22
Assault: Authorities responded to a possible stabbing in the 10 block of Holly Drive before charging 18-year-old Jayden Robbins of Holly, Liberty, and 20-year-old Jazmyne McDowell of Ohio Avenue, Youngstown, with simple assault. No one was stabbed, but McDowell alleged Robbins, her boyfriend, had placed her in a chokehold and punched her several times in the stomach; she also struck Robbins multiple times with a cellphone during an argument between them, a report showed.
Arrest: While answering a shoplifting call at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, police took 28-year-old Amanda L. Miller into custody. Miller, of Collar-Price Road, Hubbard, was wanted on a theft warrant from that city.
Theft: A township woman noticed her purse missing from her car while at a Goldie Road big-box store.
Oct. 23
Trespassing: Four or five juveniles reportedly were seen running through a vacant parking lot in the 6100 block of Belmont Avenue after a man told police he thought he had seen someone in a nearby vacant residence.
Vandalism: A man told officers that after recently buying a home in the 1900 block of Oriel-Rodgers Road, someone without permission had placed political signs in the yard and drilled multiple holes in a portion of vinyl siding, doing an estimated $4,000 in damage.
Oct. 24
Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue handed 46-year-old Michelle Y. Curry to township authorities. Curry, of Anoka Lane, Youngstown, was wanted on a Liberty warrant.
Theft: A Warren man noticed $300 to $400 missing from his vehicle after having visited friends in the 20 block of Trumbull Court.
Burglary: Took place in the 3700 block of Logangate Road via a front window, though it appeared nothing was stolen.
Arrest: Officers were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to pick up 56-year-old Stefan Breedlove of Donald Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a township warrant.
Assault: A woman alleged a 26-year-old Girard woman came to the accuser’s Frederick Street apartment and sprayed her in the face with pepper spray before leaving in a red vehicle.
Domestic violence: A township boy, 15, was charged with the crime after his grandmother alleged the teen had shoved her onto a bed. The accuser was not injured, though.
Oct. 25
Arrest: Authorities arrested Ann E. Roberts of Oakland Drive, Youngstown, upon discovering the 62-year-old Roberts was wanted on a Niles warrant accusing her of passing bad checks.
Arrest: Officers responded to a possible disturbance near Hadley and Trumbull avenues, where they took into custody 35-year-old Raheem Cleveland of Hadley, Liberty, after learning he was wanted on a Texas warrant charging him with being a fugitive from justice.
Oct. 26
Indecency/criminal damaging: A Trumbull Court woman alleged a neighbor came to her residence for a cigarette, then exposed himself to her. The next day, the accuser discovered miscellaneous clothing and bedding had been cut and damaged.
HUBBARD
Oct. 21
Theft: A Warren boy, 13, was charged after a clerk with Circle K, 211 W. Liberty St., alleged the teen had stolen a donation jar from the store.
Theft: A man noticed several prescription medications had been stolen from his apartment in the 100 block of West Liberty Street.
Oct. 22
Aggravated menacing: Frank J. Guerrero, 60, of West Liberty Street, Hubbard, was cited on an aggravated-menacing charge after a neighbor alleged Guerrero had threatened to kill him.
Theft: A woman noticed 10 over-the-counter pills missing from her West Liberty Street apartment.
Oct. 23
Harassment: A Brookfield man told officers that while in the 400 block of West Liberty Street, a friend from whom he had borrowed $500 made dozens of threats against the accuser regarding paying back the money.
Oct. 24
Criminal mischief: An Elizabeth Street woman reported that a family member had thrown away the accuser’s $900 wedding dress.
