POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
Oct. 21
Burglary: To a garage in the 5600 block of Clingan Road. Stolen were a garage-door opener, loose change and a flashlight.
Criminal damaging: A vehicle sustained damage in the 5500 block of Center Road.
Burglary: Took place at a residence in the 2500 block of Bedford Road via unknown means. Stolen was $2,500 worth of women’s shoes.
Oct. 22
Thefts: Seven residents, most of whom live on Hunters Hill, Via Siena and Mulberry Walk drives as well as Timberbrooke Trail, reported car break-ins. Items taken included small sums of money, DVDs, a garage-door opener and a gift card.
Oct. 23
Breaking and entering: Someone broke into Poland Self Storage, 3190 Center Road, and removed a $395 pressure washer.
BOARDMAN
Oct. 21
Attempted burglary: A woman returned to her apartment in the 8100 block of Southern Boulevard and noticed a window screen on the ground and that the upper portion of the window had been forcibly moved, apparently as someone tried to gain entry.
Aggravated menacing: A Locust Avenue man reported a man whom he had recently met and who likely was intoxicated threatened him with a knife as the accuser tried to check on him.
Theft: A man discovered $50 missing from his apartment in the 6100 block of Market Street.
Burglary: To an apartment in the 800 block of Moyer Avenue, from which a Sony PlayStation 4 game system, eight Xbox games and numerous other items were taken. The loss came to about $6,060.
Theft: Laqresha S. Womack, 40, of Moorefield Avenue, Austintown, along with a 16-year-old Austintown girl, was charged with theft and receiving stolen property after being accused of returning $182 worth of lingerie to Victoria’s Secret in Southern Park Mall that had been stolen from the store the day before. In addition, Womack and the teen had items that had been stolen from Rue 21, a clothing and accessory business, also in the mall.
Vandalism/possible arson: A worker for Ron Kreps Drywall & Plastering, 6042 Market St., told police someone had spray-painted a rear door and wall, a company-owned truck and a nearby trash bin. Also found were burn marks on a portion of siding on a warehouse behind the business, a police report showed.
Aggravated menacing: Two supervisors with Marc’s, 7121 Tiffany Blvd., alleged a former employee had threatened to burn down or shoot up the business regarding a check she felt was owed her.
Theft: Two women reportedly stole $219 worth of clothing from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.
Criminal damaging: Someone drove over and damaged part of a lawn at a business in the 200 block of Boardman-Poland Road.
Identity theft: An Argyle Avenue man told police a caller claiming to represent a law firm said the man had taken out a $600 loan in 2010 from a township credit union and, with accrued interest, supposedly owes $1,365. The credit union, however, informed the man that no record of such a loan could be found.
Oct. 22
Theft: An Austintown man noticed $60 in change missing as he shopped at a Doral Drive big-box store.
Theft: A man and a woman reportedly left Steak ‘n’ Shake, 6786 Applewood Blvd., without paying their $24.32 food bill.
Theft: A man reportedly stole $906 worth of merchandise, including a sweatshirt, from Sears in Southern Park Mall.
Attempted theft: A Prestwick Drive man discovered someone had tried to enter his vehicle and garage.
Theft: A woman in her early 20s reportedly took a $23 Bluetooth receiver from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Theft: A 14-year-old Youngstown girl was charged with theft and obstructing official business after a Pittsburgh Steelers hooded sweatshirt and tank top were taken from Sears. The girl also provided false personal information, a report said.
Theft: Al Jonae M. Phillips, 18, of East Midlothian Boulevard, and 21-year-old Chantaz L.I. Brown of Pasadena Avenue, faced theft charges. The two Youngstown women were accused of stealing 24 articles of clothing valued at $627 from Sears.
Oct. 23
Assault: A Glendale Avenue woman alleged a friend’s roommate had shoved and grabbed her hair during an argument. The victim was not injured, however.
Identity theft: A Lost Creek Drive man found five fraudulent charges to his debit card that totaled $207.
Criminal mischief: Someone tossed eggs at the front door to a home in the 5800 block of Sharon Drive.
Burglary: A portable DVD player was missing from a residence in the 200 block of East Western Reserve Road someone had forcibly entered, possibly through a window.
Felonious assault: A 15-year-old boy alleged that while in the 400 block of Boardman-Canfield Road, a driver with whom the boy had been in a confrontation several months earlier struck the accuser’s bicycle with the front of his vehicle before driving away. The teen was not injured, though.
Theft: A woman reported a $5,000 gold engagement ring missing from her West Parkside Drive home.
Burglary: Police arrested 24-year-old Teon D. Stennis at his Moyer Avenue apartment on a burglary warrant, then charged the Boardman man with resisting arrest after saying he had attempted to jump from a window. Stennis also was wanted on a Youngstown bench warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Criminal mischief: Two men reportedly entered the employee break room at a Boardman-Poland Road home-improvement store, then rummaged through several personal lockers.
Felonious assault: Charges of felonious assault and obstructing official business were to have been filed against a 50-year-old Columbiana man after authorities had responded to a report that the man was trying to start fights with several people at a South Avenue restaurant. A patron alleged the Columbiana man came toward him in a pickup truck in an effort to strike the accuser, a report stated.
Oct. 24
Theft: Brandon A. Hall of Forest Park Drive, Boardman, surrendered on a felony-theft charge after an elderly Pearson Circle woman alleged Hall, 19, had stolen $100 worth of packing tape from her.
Harassment: A Hitchcock Road man said a former friend has made and left a series of offensive and unwanted calls and messages.
Employee theft: Caileigh M. Dayton, 22, of South Portland Avenue, Youngstown, was charged after a loss-prevention official with T.J. Maxx & More, 717 Boardman-Poland Road, alleged Dayton had made a $43 fraudulent purchase with a stolen store value card.
Theft: A Glenwood Avenue man discovered two checks, including a $360 rent check, were missing from a mailbox.
Theft: A Canfield man told authorities three rings valued at $15,000 had been taken from his elderly mother’s room at a South Avenue long-term care facility.
Burglary: To a home in the 5900 block of Northlawn Avenue. Clothing may have been stolen.
Criminal damaging: A man reported a tree-removal company’s truck had left ruts in the yard of his deceased father’s Arden Boulevard residence.
Truck theft: A 2012 Ford F-250 truck was stolen in the 1100 block of Red Tail Hawk Drive.
Burglary: Occurred at an apartment in the 6600 block of Market Street. Stolen was a 32-inch flat-screen TV.
Theft: Nicholas A. Chronister, 28, was taken into custody at a business in the 300 block of Boardman-Poland Road, then charged. Chronister, of North Bank Street, Cortland, was accused of stealing $156 worth of merchandise, including a pair of pants, from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.
