Friday, October 28, 2016

Boardman’s Chris Butler earned meet MVP by placing first overall out of 287 runners leading the Spartans to a second place finish at this year’s Sim Earich Invitational improving the varsity’s record to 134-23 for the 2016 season.

Boardman was outscored by just two points to AAC rival Howland.

Scoring for the Boardman varsity along with Butler were senior Nick Digiacomo in fifth place in a time of 17:14, junior Mark Moradian in sixth with a time of 17:16, freshman Mitchell Dunham in ninth place at 17:22 and senior Nathaniel Ams in 14th at 17:35.

“Very pleased with the effort,” said Spartan Head Coach John Phillips. “We are getting better at just the right time of the season. Howland is one of those teams that we need to beat if we want to make it far in post-season and today we were very, very close.”

Setting a new personal best at the Trumbull Fairgrounds course were senior Richard Fisher at 22:09 and sophomore Matt Welton at 20:59. Earning the final BW-3 ‘Runner of the Week’ award is senior Dominic Eorio.

“Dom has really finished his senior season strong and has earned the opportunity to represent Boardman High School at districts this week,” said Phillips.
