Boys cross country places fifth at regional championships

The Boardman Spartan boys cross country team advanced to the OHSAA Regional Championship for the fourth time in the past six years, after placing fifth at the OHSAA Northeast District Championship at a wet and muddy Trumbull County Fairgrounds course.

Senior Chris Butler led the Spartans with an fifth place finish in a time of 16:31; he was followed by senior Nathaniel Ams in 27th place with a time of 17:21. Freshman Mitchell Dunham was next at 30th overall in a time of 17:30. They were followed by senior Nick Digiacomo in 39th place with a time of 17:46 and junior Mark Moradian in 42nd overall with a time of 17:53 as well as junior Luke Hetzel in 49th place in a time of 18:02 and senior Dom Eorio in 54th overall in a time of 18:07.

“Very happy for our seniors and excited for our program,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “In our district, with all these good teams and poor race conditions anything can happen-fortunately we ran well enough to qualify. Now we get to run at home next week and have a shot at getting to Columbus.”
