Nathaniel Jones to present memoirs

YOUNGSTOWN

Retired federal judge Nathaniel Jones, nationally renowned attorney and civil- rights advocate, will present a synopsis of his recently published memoirs at 7 p.m. Thursday in the DeBartolo Stadium Club at Youngstown State University.

The presentation, followed by a panel discussion and book signing, is free and open to the public and sponsored by the Youngstown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

Refreshments will be served.

Garden District group plans to meet

YOUNGSTOWN

The Garden District Neighborhood Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Colonial Hall of St. John Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Ave.

President Jerry O’Hara will officiate, and Councilman Mike Ray, D-4th, will give an update of activities. Guest speaker will be Sarah Lowry, Northeast Ohio liaison for U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Cleveland.

Police, DEA plan Drug Take Back Day

LIBERTY

The Liberty Township Police Department, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, will be sponsoring National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the administration building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

People may bring unused, unwanted or expired prescription drugs. A police officer will be present to supervise the collection.

Needles, sharps containers and liquids will not be accepted.

Turkey giveaway

YOUNGSTOWN

Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave., invites the public to sign up for its turkey giveaway.

Sign-up will take place from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Saturday and Tuesday and from 12:30 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday until Oct. 29.

Participants need to bring identification. Orders will be taken in person only.

Turkeys will be distributed Nov. 19.
