YOUNGSTOWN

Police seized three guns and made two felony and one misdemeanor arrest on weapons charges Tuesday and early Wednesday.

About 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, police pulled over a car on Bennington Avenue driven by Daniel Williams, 21, of Forestview Drive after he drove by a cruiser with a very loud exhaust then failed to signal for a turn.

Reports said Williams told police he has a warrant for assault from municipal court. When police searched him they found a dose of suspected heroin in his pants pocket and inside his car they found a 9mm handgun and two packs of Suboxone, as well as $1,109 cash.

Williams was booked into the Mahoning County jail on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of heroin and possession of drugs.

About 10:40 p.m. Tuesday at East Philadelphia and South avenues, police pulled over a car driven by Joseph Hornbuckle Jr., 31, of Elruth Court in Girard, for an improper turn. Reports said Hornbuckle was shaking like he was nervous, and a records check found he has a suspended license.

When the car was searched before it was towed, reports said a loaded .44-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver was found under the driver’s seat. Williams told police the gun was not his, reports said.

Williams was booked into the jail on charges of driving under suspension, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

About 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, police pulled over a car at Mahoning and Portland avenues driven by Edgardo Carbelo Morales, 27, of Dogwood Lane for a cracked windshield. Reports said Morales did not tell officers he has a valid concealed-carry permit and a loaded gun with him when they first came to talk to him.

Under state law, a CCW holder must tell a police officer immediately that they have a permit and a gun.

Morales was given a citation for a misdemeanor failure to notify a law enforcement officer of a concealed-carry permit. A passenger, Evelyss Rivera, 30, no address listed, was taken into a custody on a warrant from municipal court for discharging a firearm within city limits.

He was booked into the jail on the warrant.

Coupled with an arrest in a separate incident Tuesday, police seized four guns. According to Vindicator files, police have seized 134 guns so far this year.
