MILESTONES

DOCTORATE

Jerry Hunter, son of Jerry and Doreen Hunter of Boardman, recently earned a doctorate of biochemistry degree from Indiana University School of Medicine.

He is a 2003 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Youngstown State University.

He is employed at the Indiana University Office of Technology Commercialization in Indianapolis.

SCOUTS

Jacob S. Austrino, son of Sam and Deb (Jones) Austrino of Columbus, formerly of Poland, received his Eagle Scout award during a court-of-honor ceremony March 13 at Grace Lutheran Church in Westerville, Ohio. He is the grandson of Jim and Mary Ann Jones of Boardman and the late Samuel and Rose Marie Austrino of Poland.

For his Eagle Scout project, Austrino constructed an outdoor classroom at Wilder Elementary, of the Westerville City Schools, to be used as an outdoor reading space and a nature classroom.

Family, friends and troop members helped with the construction. Converse Electric and the Wilder PTA provided financial assistance for the project.

Austrino, a senior at Westerville South High School, is co-captain of the track team and a member of the jazz and symphonic band. As a five-year member of the marching band he has competed in OMEA and MSBA competitions as a trumpet soloist and section leader. In 2016, he received the Director’s Award. He is a member of the National Honor Society and will attend Ohio University this fall majoring in music education.

DOCTORS

Austin Clark, formerly of Boardman, recently earned his doctor of veterinary medicine from Ohio State University.

Dr. Clark is the son of Ivan and Ann Clark of Boardman. He is a 2008 graduate of Boardman High School, and graduated magna cum laude with honors from the University of Findlay, earning degrees in animal science and pre-veterinary medicine.

He completed his board examination and has accepted a position with Ashland Veterinary Clinic in Ashland, Ohio, where he lives with his wife, Hannah.
