YOUNGSTOWN

A man wanted on weapons charges involving two separate incidents was found by police Thursday in an East Side apartment.

Jason Harmon, 25, was arraigned Friday in municipal court before Magistrate Anthony Sertick on a charge of burglary as well as warrants for two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle and misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass and aggravated menacing. His bond was set at $75,000.

The burglary charge stems from his arrest about 2:10 p.m. at an apartment in the 1400 block of Woodcrest Avenue. Reports said a maintenance man cutting grass spotted someone inside an apartment who was not supposed to be there and called police.

Harmon was wanted in two separate shooting incidents April 17 at the Plaza View apartment complex and late April 19 on Springdale Avenue.

In the first incident, police were not called to the apartment complex until April 21, where Community Police Unit officer Jose Morales Jr. was told Harmon came to the complex, argued with a man, and fired a round from an assault rifle in the air, all while there were several people, including young children, outside.

No one was injured. There is video that shows the incident, reports said. Reports said Harmon has been warned he is not allowed on Plaza View property.

In the second incident, police were called about 11:10 p.m. April 19 to Springdale Avenue for a man driving around and firing a gun. Reports said a witness was able to identify Harmon and the car he was driving.

No one was injured in that incident, either.

On Thursday, reports said officers were planning to surround the apartment Harmon was in when they spotted him near the front door and ordered him outside. He came outside and was taken into custody without incident.
