Tuesday, May 17, 2016

YOUNGSTOWN — A jury has convicted a 20-year-old Broadway man of robbery and aggravated robbery, but acquitted him of the attached firearm specifications, in a March 25, 2015, attack on a 73-year-old man, who was walking in Roosevelt Park in Campbell.

The jury rendered its verdict Monday in the case of Rashan T. Bell, following a trial that had begun May 9 before Judge Maureen A. Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Bell hit the victim on the head with a solid object, punched and kicked him after he fell to the ground and stole his wallet, Michael Rich, an assistant county prosecutor, told the jury in his opening statement.

Bell, who remains jailed pending sentencing, faces 3 to 11 years in prison.
