BASEBALL

Cincinnati Loveland 10, Boardman 9

VERO BEACH, FLA.

A six-run was the difference as the Spartans (1-3) were unable to maintain an early 8-2 lead. Lou Cardona paced a 12-hit Boardman attack with three singles, a double and three RBIs. Drew Wagner and Connor Kenneally each had two hits and Luke Cardillo doubled and drove in two runs. Nick Stamp also had a double for the Spartans.

Dunbar (Ky.) 3, Boardman 2

VERO BEACH, FLA.

The Spartans snapped a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth inning when Dom Stilliana and Luke Cardillo singled and Mike Melewski delivered a run-scoring grounduout. But the lead was short-lived, as Dunbar used a walk and an error two the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh. Both runs were unearned. Stilliana, Cardillo and Lou Cardona each had two hits for Boardman and Alex Cardona had a double.

Fairmont (W.Va.) 6, Niles 4

MYRTLE BEACH, SC

Jaret Johnson went 2 for 4 for Niles with an RBI and a run in the loss. Fairmont scored four runs in the sixth inning to take control.

Howland 10, Edison 0

COCOA, FLA.

Josh Shver pitched five innings while Jacob Harsany pitched a flawless sixth to no-hit Edison. Craig Lewis went 2 for 4, scoring two runs and driving in a run in the run-ruled affair.

Howland 13, Columbia Academy 1

COCOA, FLA.

Mike Massucci and Frank Rappach threw a combined one-hitter as Howland dominated in a five-inning game. Lewis went 3 for 3 with three runs to help the Tigers jump out at an 11-0 lead after two innings.

Hubbard 16, Windham 3

WINDHAM

Hubbard (1-1) was keyed by an 11-run sixth inning in its rout of Windham. Colin Shinosky led the way with four hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Brett Lopuchovsky went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Also for the Eagles, Ryan Love notched two doubles and three RBIs and Anthony Laird had two doubles and two RBIs.

Edgewood 9, Struthers 5

ASHTABULA

Edgewood downed Struthers behind Jake Bilel’s two-hit, two-RBI performance and Matt DiDonato’s double and two RBIs. Frankie Olivarez was the winning pitcher, while John Medvec took the loss. Medvec also paced Struthers with two hits.

Jackson-Milton 5, Columbiana 4

NORTH JACKSON

Jackson-Milton scored runs in each of the first three innings and built a 5-2 lead, while Columbiana mounted a comeback in the sixth and scored two runs before leaving the tying and go-ahead runners on base. Eric Ostrowski pitched six innings for the Bluejays (1-0), striking out five, and Justin Rentz pitched a perfect seventh inning to earn the save for the Bluejays. Scott Mitchell led Jackson-Milton with three hits and Braden Nagy had a double. Columbiana was paced by Mitch Davidson’s two hits.

Mineral Ridge 3, Southern 1

MINERAL RIDGE

Mac White struck out nine for Mineral Ridge, allowing one run over seven innings to pick up the win. Southern out-hit the Rams 5-3 but stranded six runners, a key factor in the outcome. Mineral Ridge jumped out for good on a fourth-inning groundout by Jake Rhodes that plated home two runs.

Mathews 13, Lordstown 0

LORDSTOWN

The Mustangs clubbed Lordstown (1-1) thanks to an offense that saw five batters crank out multiple hits. Chris Ritz picked up for RBIs on two hits for Mathews (2-0, 1-0), including a double, while Ian DeGaten picked up two RBIs and had a triple. Anthony Oulton pitched six innings, striking out six and walking none.

Lowellville 13, Leetonia 0

STRUTHERS

Tyler Barone pitched a five-inning shutout for Lowellville — notching six strikeouts and allowing just one hit — while also pacing the Rockets with three hits. Tyler Hetmanski and Nate Solak also had two hits each for Lowellville.

Western Reserve 4, Salem 3, 8 innings

BERLIN CENTER

A fielder’s choice by Justin Ciccone sent home Jacob Clark to win the extra-inning affair. Clark went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Walker Marlowe got the win, striking out five in four innings. Salem’s Logan Wilms went six innings, striking out seven in a no-decision.

Niles 5, Glenbard South (Ill.) 3

MYRTLE BEACH, SC

Niles scratched across two runs in the top of the seventh to take the win Tuesday. Tyler Srbinovich went the distance allowing four hits, striking out 13 and walking just one while going 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI.

Cardinal Mooney 6, St. Thomas Aquinas 0

STRUTHERS

Jack Lynch went all seven innings on the mound for the Cardinals on Tuesday, allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out three. Devin Card, Richey Bryce and Lynch all had two hits each, while Lynch notched three RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Canfield 10, Kearny (N.J.) 1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Kayla Troxil pitched seven innings with no earned runs in a blowout win for the Cardinals. Jenna Gibson paced the offense, reaching base three times, scoring two runs and driving in two more.

Canfield 15, Bergen (N.J.) 0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

A 13-run second inning propelled the Cardinals to their second blowout win on the day. Bridget Durkin allowed one hit while Maura Kennedy had two RBIs on three hits, including a two-run double to help balloon the lengthy second inning.

McDonald 15, Lowellville 1

MCDONALD

Rachel Ward clubbed two homers and a double for the Blue Devils (1-1) to rack up four RBIs in a blowout win while also striking out six batters and walking only one. Kendra Kelly had three hits, two of which were doubles as she ended up with three RBIs.

Jefferson 3, Champion 0

JEFFERSON

Alyssa Irons was nearly unhittable for the Falcons (2-0), striking out seven Champion batters and walking one while allowing just one hit. Jackie Mulvain took the hard-luck loss for the Golden Flashes (1-1) allowing four hits, walking three and striking out two.

St. Mary’s Raken (Md.) 3, South Range 0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Caragyn Yanek pitched six innings for the Raiders, but they dropped their first game of the season. Yankek allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out nine. She also had one of two South Range hits, with Codi Taylor notching the other.

Newton Falls 6, Hubbard 4, 9 innings

HUBBARD

Newton Falls brought home two runs in the top of the ninth to seal an away win against the Eagles. Tara Backherms scored twice for the Tigers and Jenna Ballas pitched all nine innings, striking out seven and walking three in the win.

Brookfield 15, Liberty 1

BROOKFIELD

Brookfield run-ruled the Leopards thanks to Lauren Pesa, Kenzie Drapola, Alisha Quinlan and Bailey Drapola all picking up two or more RBIs. Drapola had a three-run home run and Quinlan picked up the win striking out six and walking one.

Mineral Ridge 10, Southern 0

MINERAL RIDGE

Kim Schilling struck out six Southern batters in the blowout while Noelle Bukovina had two hits for the Rams, including an RBI triple. Victoria Tedesco had two hits, three RBIs and a run scored. Sam Michael and Riley Felton each picked up a hit for Southern.

Poland 5, Fitch 0

AUSTINTOWN

The Bulldogs knocked in five runs on eight hits to pick up their first win on the season improving their overall and conference record to 1-1. Megan Marsico picked up the win, limiting the Falcons to two hits.

Lisbon 14, Campbell 4

LISBON

A 10-run first inning help the Blue Devils (2-1) coast to a non-league win over Campbell. Campbell picked up four runs on seven hits but it wasn’t enough to stay in the game.

Ursuline 4, Delaney (Md.) 2

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.

Ursuline scored all four runs in the top of the fifth, breaking up a scoreless game. Cassandra Hanuschak hit a two-run double which was followed up by another double from McKenzie Shells. Jenna O’Hara smacked an RBI single to bring home the fourth run. Jordyn Kenneally went the distance, striking out 11 Delaney batters.

Lowellville 10, Leetonia 6

LOWELLVILLE

With the Rockets clinging to a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning, Olivia Sotlar smashed a three-run homer to ice the game. Her sister Isabella Sotlar went the distance striking out six and allowing three walks. Courtney Conklin went 3 for 3 while Kelsie Dimetro and Jess Johnston each went 2 for 3.
