YOUNGSTOWN

Prosecutors said Tuesday during opening statements in the Keith Sims murder trial that the victim, Shaniece Wells, was shot as she was walking away after an argument between two groups of women at a South Side home.

Naturally, defense attorneys for the 27-year-old Sims disagreed, saying that the fight was still going on when Wells was shot Oct. 25, 2014, in the 800 block of East Boston Avenue and later died.

Testimony began in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court in the case against Sims, who faces a charge of murder with a firearm specification in the death of the 23-year-old Wells of Maplewood Court. Jurors were picked Monday before Judge Maureen Sweeney.
