COLUMBUS

The Columbus metro area has an estimated 2 million people now, an increase of about 1.2 percent from 2014.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that the Census Bureau recently released estimates showing that while the home of Ohio’s capital added residents, Cleveland’s population fell slightly to less than 2.1 million. Cincinnati saw a slight bump and now sits at nearly 2.2 million.

Community Research Partners, a nonprofit group that examines communities, says an increasing number of young professionals could be driving some of the growth to the Columbus area.

Columbus is the third-largest metropolitan area in the state and the 32nd largest in the country.

City economic-development officials attribute the state’s growth to the Columbus region and say Columbus’ corporate base and higher-education system attract people to the area.
