Theft suspect runs out of gas, seeks ride
COLUMBUS
Police say a suspect in a video-game store theft ran out of gas soon afterward and then asked an officer for a ride.
Columbus police say the officer gave the man a ride back to the video game store where employees identified him. Then the 28-year-old got another ride to the county jail.
Police charged him with a misdemeanor count of theft.
Investigators say the suspect stole a video game Wednesday and that a nearby security camera caught an image of his truck.
A Columbus police officer saw the footage and went looking for the truck.
Police say the officer saw the suspect running through a yard and that he explained he had run out of gas and needed a ride.
Deadline nears to send old rape kits to state
COLUMBUS
The Ohio Attorney General’s office says state law-enforcement agencies have until Wednesday to send in old rape test kits. Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office says the tests that include DNA obtained from sexual assault victims must be submitted by next week under a law that took effect last year.
DeWine says the testing has helped identify hundreds of alleged attackers.
