The Girard High School Robotics Team won a finalist trophy and medals from the Buckeye Regional tournament in Cleveland this weekend.

The RoboCats were the first round pick of the No. 7 team alliance going into the finals. The alliance moved out of quarter finals with a 2-1 win and advanced into the final round after winning semi-finals, 2-0. The alliance lost in the last match of finals by just 1 point. Other members of the alliance included Team 27 from Clarkston, Michigan and Team 1014 from Dublin, Ohio. Team 1014 was used as a backup for Team 706 from Hartland, Wisconsin in the 3rd match of quarterfinals after robot malfunction.

The team also had a student, sophomore Avery Tinkey, win the Dean’s List award in recognition of her hard work and the example she has made for the team and other teams around her. She will represent the team at the World Championships while vying for the Championship Dean’s List award with other recipients from other events.
