Harry's feisty finish | Retiring from YSU board, Meshel walks out in huff today

YOUNGSTOWN -- Tuesday is the last day of Youngstown State University Trustees committee meetings for retired state Sen. Harry Meshel -- and he walked out in a huff.

Meshel's nine-year-term as a trustee is drawing to a close and a recognition is planned at Wednesday's regular trustees meeting, which would be Meshel's last official meeting.

At today's trustees' Academic Quality and Student Success Committee, Meshel grew irritated when conversation centered on the university building that bears his name.

Martin Abraham, provost and vice president for academic affairs, talked about how some of the labs on the first floor of Meshel Hall are being moved out to other buildings.

Meshel said the building was intended as a computer science hub, but none of the previous administrations or anyone else on campus developed it.

"No one has done anything with that building except invade it," he said.

Delores Crawford asked Meshel to ask his questions as the meeting was going longer than scheduled.

"I'll help you with that," Meshel said.

Then he gathered his things and walked out.
