The Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze was a top seller in the Mahoning Valley in February.

The compact car was the second-best new seller with 156 sales – falling slightly behind the Chevrolet Silverado’s 162 sales, according to data compiled by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

The data derive from auto titles processed by county title departments by the final business day each month.

The Cruze was the best-selling used vehicle with 64 sales.

“It speaks volumes for our team members,” said Glenn Johnson, president of United Auto Workers Local 1112, who represents the assembly-plant workers at the General Motors Assembly plant.

The quality of the áruze, Johnson says, “has resonated with our community.”

The current Cruze has been on the market since late 2010. The new, next-generation Cruze, with a sleek style, updated technology and enhanced safety features, will hit showrooms this spring. About 4,500 workers at the Lordstown plant are working on the launch of the next-generation Cruze.

“The membership is just excited about the reveal of this car,” said Robert Morales, president of UAW Local 1714, who represents the fabrication plant workers at Lordstown. “We are waiting and anticipating for it to be showcased.”

New sales on the Cruze increased by 88 year-over-year.

Used sales on the Cruze were down by four year- over-year.

Total new- and used-vehicle sales for the month went up from 3,537 sales to 3,993.

The top three dealers for new and used sales in the Valley were: Greenwood Chevrolet of Austintown with 281 sales; Stadium Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac of Salem with 180 sales; and Sweeney Chevrolet of Boardman with 179 sales.

The top three dealers for just new sales were: Greenwood with 188 sales; Stadium with 125; and Sweeney with 122.

The top three dealers for used sales were: Greenwood with 93 sales; Taylor Kia of Boardman with 74; and Fairway Ford of Canfield with 65 sales.

New and used sales for the year so far total 8,117 – up by 267 over last year’s figure of 7,850.
