The Rev. Gerald DeLucia, Cardinal Mooney High School president, is leaving his position to return full time to parish ministry.

“I have considered it a great honor to hold this position and to be a part of the Catholic Education of so many young people,” Father DeLucia said in a letter sent to Mooney faculty.

Paul Gregory, former CMHS public-relations representative, said Father DeLucia said he is leaving because he has other assignments that need his attention.

His new assignments include filling in for a pastor at St. Luke Parish in Boardman.

“It is time for me to return my full efforts to parish work,” DeLucia said in his letter.

The letter closed with his request for God’s blessing on all faculty and on Cardinal Mooney’s future.

According to a press release issued by the school, board of education Chairman Dan Landers will serve as interim president during a nationwide search for DeLucia’s replacement.
