Scrappers blanked by Doubledays

AUBURN, N.Y.

For the second straight night, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ offense was held in check by the Auburn Doubledays.

After a leadoff double to start Tuesday’s game, Doubledays starter Westin Davis retired 15 straight batters as the Scrappers were shutout for the first time this season, 5-0.

The Scrappers’ next baserunner came in the seventh inning when Erlin Cerda was hit by a pitch, snapping a streak of 18 straight outs.

Auburn took ma 2-0 lead in the first inning on Randy Encarnacion’s two-run single.

A Scrappers error in the third inning triggered a three-run third inning. Sheldon Neuse hit a two-run triple.

he Scrappers would not get another baserunner until the top of the seventh inning. After Cerda was hit by a pitch to start the inning, Todd Isaacs picked up the Scrappers’ only other hit with a bunt single in the eighth inning.

Ryan Colegate (0-1) took the loss for the Scrappers. He went three innings while allowing five hits and five runs, four of which were earned. Colegate walked one and struck out one. Leandro Linares, Michael Letkweitz and Henry Martinez finished the game with five scoreless innings combined.
