It took city water department workers about six hours to fix a major break that left residents along a section of Southern Boulevard, between Lucy Street and Beechwood Drive, without water. The break occurred about 12:30 p.m. Monday on Southern at Maple Drive.

“It was wear and tear on old pipes that caused the break,” said Lou Zorella, a water department foreman.

Shot fired in the air

YOUNGSTOWN

A woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after reports said she fired a shot in the air while arguing with her boyfriend.

Lasara Jones, 30, of North Whitney Avenue, was booked into the Mahoning County jail on charges of domestic violence and discharging a firearm within city limits.

Officers were called to Jones’ home about 5:15 p.m., where both Jones and her boyfriend had argued. When she tried to leave, she fired a shot in the air.

Jones told police she has a valid concealed-carry permit, and a records check found the permit. Police found one spent .40-caliber shell casing in the driveway and took Jones’ .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun.
