Controlling weeds

The public is invited to join the Ohio State University Extension from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Dean Mar Farms, 11440 Palmyra Road, to learn about palmer amaranth identification and control with a discussion about weed pressure and control, and to review weed identification.

Mark Loux, OSU weed specialist, will share his insight, research and practical application of controls on the farm.

Registration is $10 and includes lunch, handouts and materials.

Door prizes include 2016 weed-control guides and corn, soybean and alfalfa field guides.

Job fair for veterans

YOUNGSTOWN

The last in a series of three job, training and benefits fairs for veterans will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., Lobby B.

Among the participating agencies will be Ohio Means Jobs, Youngstown State University’s Veterans Services Office, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Social Security Administration, and the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission and Department of Job and Family Services.

Same-day benefits eligibility determinations may be made for those who bring photo identification and proof of veteran status, income, assets, residency and medical expenses.
