Farmers market set

BOARDMAN

The parking lot at Magic Tree Pub & Eatery, 7463 South Ave., will once again become home to a farmers market – the Magic Market.

The Magic Market Farmers Market opens for its second season from 4 to 7 p.m. today and every Wednesday through Oct. 12.

The public can shop for fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, herbs and more from local farmers and growers.

Vendors are not limited to farmers, however.

Local business owners will be selling ready-to-eat treats, health and beauty products, vintage clothing, jewelry and more.

Ohio EPA events

WARREN

Craig W. Butler, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency director, will attend two public events Thursday in Trumbull County.

The first is a 10:30 a.m. announcement at the Warren Community Amphitheater about the first round of statewide grants to help communities mitigate the spread of mosquito-borne viruses such as Zika.

Also attending will be state Medical Director Mary Diorio, and other officials.

The alternate site in the event of bad weather is the fifth-floor commissioners hearing room in the county administration building, 160 High St. NW.

The second event will be at noon at the water treatment plant at 1 Water St. in West Farmington, where Butler and other officials will outline funding available to upgrade and regionalize the village’s public-water services.

The alternate location is the West Farmington Township Hall, 151 College St. (back entry), West Farmington.

Man hit with pipe

WARREN

A man, 40, of Warren, suffered a severe laceration after being hit with a pipe outside a home in the 1000 block of Elm Road Northeast at 9:40 p.m. Monday.

The man said when he arrived at the home, where he had been living with a woman, numerous people started to assault him, including the one with a pipe.

The woman said the fight started after the male victim started yelling at everyone.

The woman said she was assaulted also, but she refused medical treatment.

The male was taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Motorcyclist injured

SOUTHINTON

A motorcyclist was injured in a 1:45 p.m. Tuesday crash on state Route 305 near Warren Painesville Road.

Roger Lovejoy, 67, of Ravenna was westbound on Route 305 on his motorcycle and failed to make a curve to the left, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The motorcycle traveled off the right side of the road, overturned and Lovejoy was ejected.

He was not wearing a helmet.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

A state trooper cited him for failure to control.

Fire destroys garage

YOUNGSTOWN

Fire reports said embers from a fire pit may have caused a blaze that destroyed a Hartzell Avenue garage late Monday.

Crews were called about 11:20 p.m. to 1746 Hartzell Ave. and found the garage in flames.

Reports said there were cars parked near the garage but reports did not say what was inside the garage, other than it had no power or heat.

The owner told firefighters he had been outside but had gotten tired and went to bed and was awakened by children telling him the garage was on fire.

Reports said a fire pit close to the garage was still smoldering when firefighters arrived.

Damage is listed at $6,000.

There were no injuries.
