An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was injured Monday during a truck crash after jumping to the rescue of a bystander.

Trooper Ken Robbins was standing outside his vehicle on Interstate 80 with a tow-truck driver after responding to an accident when a truck reportedly attempted to stop, swerved, and hit Robbins’ cruiser.

Robbins heard the truck coming, and pushed the tow-truck driver out of the way, suffering minor injuries when his cruiser hit him, according to a news release from OSHP. The driver of the truck also suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

The truck driver, Glenn Blank, 73, of Baden, Pa., was cited for failure to control his vehicle.

The accident occurred on I-80 westbound just east of the Ohio Turnpike about 8:30 a.m.

OSHP’s Canfield post is investigating the crash.
