YOUNGSTOWN

Every two years, the Arizona-based Global Art Project for Peace asks for participants in an international peace exchange.

During 2015, the Davis Family YMCA signed up for these three exchanges:

Fair-goers at the 2015 Canfield Fair produced a banner sent to Dubai United Arab Emigrates, and students at Sabari Indian School in Dubai returned messages of peace.

Children at Success After Six, a Y-sponsored after-school program, made a quilt that was exchanged with a banner from Hekab Be Biblioteca in Akumal, Mexico.

Participants in the Y’s ARTreach program at the Rescue Mission and Daybreak sent a painting to a community center in Malaysia, which is returning a message of peace to ARTreach.

GAP began in 1994. Each April in even years, messages of peace circle the globe to reinforce the idea that we are more alike than different.

The Davis Family YMCA has been participating in the GAP since 2006.
