BOARDMAN

BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse plans to open a location in the township in the first half of next year, a company representative told The Vindicator.

BJ’s, a California-based chain with 177 restaurants in 23 states, plans to tear down a building near Southern Park Mall that previously was occupied by Cheddar’s Casual Cafe. That restaurant closed in November.

BJ’s submitted plans this week to the township zoning office to demolish that structure and build a new one.

BJ’s first opened in the late 1970s at locations on the coast of Southern California. It currently has seven locations in Ohio.

“Boardman is a great community with solid demographics and retail trade that fits with our strategy to continue building new restaurants in Ohio,” spokesman Joe Jaffoni said in an email to the newspaper.

The Boardman location will feature the restaurant’s 130-plus-item menu, known for its deep-dish pizza and craft beer.

“Our restaurants provide a polished casual, yet contemporary ambiance feeling for all dining occasions,” Jaffoni said.
