MERRIMACK, N.H.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich has New Hampshire to himself this weekend, as his rivals for the Republican nomination campaign across Iowa in advance of Monday’s caucuses.

Kasich picked up an endorsement today from The New York Times. The Times also today endorsed Hillary Clinton in the Democratic race.

Kasich kicks off Saturday with a town hall event in Merrimack, followed by two more in Keene and Peterborough. He’s also spending Sunday campaigning in New Hampshire.

Kasich is betting his White House hopes on New Hampshire, all but ignoring first-to-vote Iowa in favor of more moderate New Hampshire.

Some of his competitors, including Jeb Bush and Chris Christie, will return to New Hampshire on Monday night rather than stay in Iowa for the caucus results. All three are battling to become the establishment alternative to Donald Trump.
