YSU holds off UIC for road win

CHICAGO

Youngstown State made 14 3-pointers and held off a second-half surge by UIC en route to an 82-78 win over the Flames on Thursday night at the UIC Pavilion.

Sophomore Cameron Morse scored a team-high 22 points and dished out a career-high eight assists to lead the Penguins (9-13, 4-5 Horizon League).

Junior Matt Donlan scored 18 points with four 3-pointers and freshman Jordan Andrews tied a career high with 18 points.

Five other Penguins made at least one 3-pointer. Morse also made four 3-pointers, which tied a career high, Andrews made three and junior Brett Frantz, sophomore Francisco Santiago and freshman Latin Davis each made one.

UIC (2-18, 0-9) was led by freshman Dikembe Dixson with 32 points and 15 rebounds. Michael Kolawole scored 15 points, while Najeal Young had 12 points and 16 rebounds and Tai Odiase scored 13 points and had 13 rebounds.

The Penguins led by as many as 24 points before settling for a 49-31 halftime lead.

The Penguins visit Valparaiso at 8 p.m. Saturday.
