Ohio police officer charged with felony theft count

Thursday, January 28, 2016

CINCINNATI (AP) — A police officer has been charged with theft in office in southwestern Ohio.

Court documents show that Cincinnati police officer Joseph Simpson was indicted Tuesday on the felony charge in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court in Cincinnati.

The 40-year-old officer was released on his own recognizance. Court documents show the alleged offense occurred Dec. 27 but contained few details. The documents did not show an attorney for Simpson. No home phone listing could be found.

A memo from City Manager Harry Black on Wednesday said Simpson was suspended pending the case’s outcome and was working an off-duty detail when the alleged offense occurred.

WCPO-TV reports Black declined to say how much money was involved.

A message left today for city officials was not immediately returned.
