A man accused of abandoning an infant inside his car and running from police earlier this week was arrested about 4:15 p.m. Thursday on a warrant at a home in the 1600 block of Everett Avenue.

Hector Herminio Santiago Garcia, 25, was arraigned before Magistrate Anthony Sertick in municipal court on a charge of child endangering and driving under suspension as well as warrants for two additional driving-under-suspension charges.

Reports said Garcia was in a car on Pearl Street on Tuesday and tried to drive through a yard after he spotted police. The car got stuck, and Garcia ran away, reports said. He left an infant inside the car in the back seat, reports said.

Reports said the Mahoning County Children Services Board was called, and the baby was given to the agency. It, in turn, returned the baby, 7 months old, to the mother.

Sertick set bond on the endangering charge, a first- degree misdemeanor, at $3,500.
