Citing the “deliberate nature” of the crime of which he’s accused – shooting his wife to death Sunday as she sat in a chair in their Farmdale home – a judge ordered Ricky Green to remain in the Trumbull County Jail without eligibility to make bond.

Also Wednesday, the Trumbull County Coroner’s office ruled that Green’s wife, Janell Green, 56, died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Judge Thomas Campbell of Central District Court said Wednesday that Green poses a danger to others. Green’s attorney, Gary Rich, noted that his client “owns real estate” and has no criminal record.

Rich entered a not-guilty plea to Green’s murder charge as Green stood silently beside him. Green will have a preliminary hearing Monday if he’s not indicted by a grand jury by then. It is common for county grand juries to indict on different or additional charges.

Green, 59, called 911 Sunday night and calmly said he had just shot his wife in a chair and asked the dispatcher to send a deputy sheriff and an ambulance, though he felt sure his wife already was dead.

When deputies arrived, they found Janell Green dead, and Ricky Green gave himself up without a struggle.

The couple had been married 16 years and lived on rural Wakefield Creek Road in rural Farmdale in northern Trumbull County.

Janell Green’s obituary said she was born in Chardon and had been a longtime Newbury resident before moving to Farmdale with Green.

The obituary said she loved to garden, bake, cook, and tend to her chickens, rabbits and honey bees. She enjoyed fishing, but her true love was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son Craig Molnar of Farmdale; parents John and Janet; brother Christopher (Lourdes) Borsi of Chardon, Gary (Dawn) Borsi of Newbury and Craig (Donna) Borsi of Newbury.

A memorial gathering will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Burr Funeral Home in Chardon. A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fowler’s Mill Cemetery in Munson Township. Donations may be sent to the Janell Green Donation Account at any Huntington Bank location.
