Crazy Lenny’s New Years Eve 5K Race

Friday, January 15, 2016

Runners in the 35th Crazy Lenny’s New Years Eve 5K Race found it cloudy with the temperature sitting at 33 degrees for the 11 a.m. start. Many former winners on both the men’s side and the women’s side returned to do battle.

Current Mount Union runner Mack Mettille took advantage of his fitness and grabbed his first race title, adding his name to the line of winners of this event. Tom Grantonic was the first male masters runner. Mark Rogenski was the first male runner in the 40s age group.

On the women’s side, former Poland High School runner and current Youngstown State University runner Michelle Klim picked up her first win by out distancing the other racers. Karen Grantonic was the first over 40, while former Ursuline and South Carolina standout, Wilma DePiore, was the first female in the 40 age group.

Former Poland runners Lenny Cockman (founder of the race), Don Carson, Becky Rudzik and Phil Pillin did the race directing duties.
