YOUNGSTOWN

Two Youngstown men face criminal charges after police said they found four guns, including two assault rifles, and suspected crack cocaine in their house during a raid by the department’s vice squad.

Shun Moreland, 43, and Antwan Irby, 40, both of Idora Avenue, are charged with felony counts of being convicted felons in illegal possession of weapons and possession of drugs, and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested the two at their home about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

They are in the Mahoning County jail pending arraignments today in Youngstown Municipal Court.

After receiving complaints from citizens about suspected drug activity at the Idora Avenue residence, police Chief Robin Lees said his officers made two undercover drug buys at that location and then obtained a search warrant.

“They’re clearly [drug] traffickers,” Lees said. “We found drugs and weapons.”

Police said a loaded .40-caliber handgun was in the freezer and the other three – an M16 assault rifle, a .45-caliber assault rifle and a 9 mm handgun – were found in closets. Also, police said they found a bag of .45-caliber ammunition and two bags of suspected crack cocaine.

The total weight of the suspected crack cocaine was about 7 to 8 grams, worth about $1,000, said Officer Brian Voitus of the vice squad.

Moreland and Irby “have a history with the police department,” Voitus said.

Mahoning County online court records show Moreland was convicted in 1995 of receiving stolen property and forgery, convicted in 2012 of felonious assault, and has an open case on charges of possession of cocaine, permitting drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Records show Irby was convicted in 2005 of carrying a concealed weapon and of trafficking in drugs a year later.
