Gusting winds, falling snow and slick roads announced winter’s belated arrival for 2016 across Ohio, and forecasters say the season’s harshest cold is on its way.
The National Weather Service says a strong cold front will whip Cleveland and much of northern Ohio with high winds gusting to 45-50 mph during the day Sunday, with Monday morning wind chills expected of zero to 5-below zero.
In the Mahoning Valley, the NWS has issued a wind advisory until 10 tonight. Look for partly sunny skies but much colder conditions Monday with wind chills as low a 2 below zero.
Southern and central areas of Ohio can expect sharply colder weather Tuesday and Wednesday, with wind chills below zero into Wednesday morning. Forecasters say those regions should be ready for snow to accumulate to 1-2 inches Monday night into Tuesday.
Several northwest Ohio counties were in low-level snow emergency conditions Sunday because of road conditions. Authorities warn that high winds could affect power lines.
