Wednesday, December 21, 2016

YOUNGSTOWN — A Struthers man who police said ran into a police car at a Boardman Burger King was sentenced today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to five years probation.

Anthony Williams, 21, was sentenced by Judge Maureen Sweeney to charges of assault on a police officer, failure to comply, OVI and a separate charge of receiving stolen property.

Williams pleaded for help, saying he has been addicted to drugs since he was 12 years old and that his father and most of his friends have been to prison.

He must complete a drug program and get his GED. He has been in jail for seven months and will remain in the jail until a bed is available at a drug treatment facility.

Reports said police responded to an overdose call on Hillman Way when Williams drove away and hit the Burger King and a police car. Williams was frothing at the mouth when police took him from the car.

No one was injured.
