Crash in Boardman after attempted stop by township police

BOARDMAN

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash at Shields Road and Market Street that occurred about 8:40 p.m. Sunday during a chase after an attempted traffic stop by Boardman police.

According to OSHP, the fleeing car was northbound on state Route 7 (Indianola/Shields) when it was driven through the intersection, striking a vehicle that was westbound on Indianola/Shields, veered off the road and hit a metal utility pole.

The OSHP reported that the driver was ejected from the vehicle, along with a passenger.

The extent of their injuries are unknown.

The driver and a passenger in the second car suffered minor injuries and refused treatment, police said.

Pa. man killed in one-car crash

MERCER, PA.

A Jamestown, Pa., man was killed early Saturday when he lost control of his vehicle traveling north on North Summit Road approaching Royal Road in Greene Township, Mercer County.

The vehicle went off the road into a ditch, and the driver was ejected from his vehicle when it rolled over several times along the east side of North Summit.

Pronounced dead at the scene by Mercer County Coroner John Libonati was Scott Chizmar, reported the Pennsylvania State Police Mercer Post.

The crash occurred at 4 a.m.

Jamestown Fire and Ambulance, McGonigle Ambulance and Rodgers Towing assisted at the scene.

Close of campaign for Thiel College

GREENVILLE, PA.

The last day of the year marks the close of the Thiel College 2016 Campaign.

En route to surpassing its goal, the campaign has now raised more money than any fundraising effort in the college’s 150-year history.

Campaign gifts have totaled more than $65 million.

The public phase of the campaign was announced with a $60 million goal during Homecoming 2015.

The money raised has enabled the college to invest in myriad essential projects, including the full funding of a new science connector facility.
