POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty, Girard, city of Canfield and Austintown:

HUBBARD

Dec. 8

Harassment: A Masury man said a Hubbard woman he had dated is harassing the accuser and his new girlfriend.

Theft: A Hager Street woman reported a package containing a $143 children’s toy was removed from her porch.

Drugs: After responding to a possibly intoxicated driver in the 800 block of West Liberty Street, officers said they discovered in the vehicle an improvised tube likely used for snorting drugs, along with a substance in a tin can that later tested for heroin. The 27-year-old Hubbard man was not arrested at the time of the report, however.

Theft: Anthony D. Wolfe, 50, of West Liberty Street, Hubbard, was charged with stealing two cigarette lighters from Circle K, 211 W. Liberty St.

Dec. 9

Theft: A Wendemere Drive man discovered a $150 set of headphones missing from his vehicle.

Identity fraud: An East Liberty Street woman told authorities she received in the mail two credit-card applications for which she had not applied, including one with a fraudulent $259 balance.

Dec. 12

Burglary: A woman reported that after returning to their Doris Drive residence, her daughter discovered the front door open, though it was unknown if anything was missing.

LIBERTY

Dec. 8

Arrest: Police responded to a failed shoplifting attempt at Citi Trends, a clothing store at 3489 Belmont Ave., where they arrested 39-year-old Hope L. Mogg of North Hartford Avenue, Youngstown, on three city warrants, including one charging possession of drug paraphernalia. Mogg was not charged with theft, though.

Vandalism: Someone smashed a 48-square-inch plate-glass window to a business in the 3100 block of Belmont Avenue and did an estimated $800 in damage.

Theft: A Girard man reported his 27-inch mountain bike stolen after having ridden it to a Goldie Road store.

Arrests: A traffic stop near Colonial Drive led to a minor-misdemeanor citation charging Braelin D. Douglas, 21, of East Auburndale Avenue, Youngstown, with marijuana possession. Also, 18-year-old Alissa K. Miller of Colonial, Liberty, was charged with obstructing official business when, authorities alleged, Miller had lied about her identity because she was wanted on a Fremont, Ohio, warrant.

Harassment: A worker for a Goldie Road big-box store told police a North Jackson woman has been harassing the accuser and her husband, which included demands she be terminated.

Identity theft: A Biscayne Avenue woman found out her debit-card number had been compromised when she used it at a Miami automated teller machine after returning there from a cruise.

Drugs: Police investigating a suspicious car near Gypsy Lane handed a minor-misdemeanor citation to Elijah C. Johnson of Palmer Avenue, Youngstown, charging the 28-year-old man with having a suspected marijuana cigar and flakes of suspected marijuana scattered in his vehicle.

Arrest: While answering a shoplifting call at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, officers took 35-year-old Justin B. Moffett into custody. Moffett, of Atlantic Street Northwest, Warren, was wanted on felony and misdemeanor county warrants.

Dec. 9

Arrest: Authorities were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to pick up 20-year-old Alexander J. Ward of Meadowbrook Avenue, Boardman. He was wanted on a charge of failing to appear in court.

Dec. 10

Arrest: Officers near Belmont Avenue and state Route 304 pulled over and charged 24-year-old Wesley A. Gutierrez of Park Avenue, Youngstown, with operating a vehicle impaired, and issued him citations on other traffic charges.

Scam: A Lucretia Drive woman told police she received an alert message warning that her computer had been hacked before calling a number in which the person claimed to offer technical support. The victim evidently was tricked into paying $300 before realizing it was a scam, a report said.

Dec. 11

Arrest: Carla A. Howell, 32, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after authorities had pulled her over near Gypsy Lane. Howell, of St. Louis Avenue, Youngstown, refused to undergo a breathalyzer test, a report showed.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into two buildings in the 5000 block of West Liberty Street through the basement, though police found no signs of forced entry. Stolen were numerous tools and two cellphones.

Menacing: A Roosevelt Drive woman reported someone had mailed racially- and sexually-charged letters to her and two family members.

Harassment: A Laurel Street woman alleged a Lowellville woman, 18, threatened over the phone to harm her.

Dec. 12

Identity theft: An Oakland Drive woman learned that someone in Miami had apparently obtained her Social Security number, then used several automated teller machines to withdraw a total of $700 from her account.

GIRARD

Dec. 9

Animal complaint: Police issued a summons to Bobbie J. Poe of Taylor Avenue, Girard, charging her with violating a local ordinance after a woman reported Poe’s pit bull had attacked her dog. The complainant’s dog had an injury to one of its left legs, a report showed.

Criminal mischief: A vehicle on Dearborn Street was found with a smashed passenger-side window and two slashed tires. Damage came to $1,000.

Theft: A man reported two packages containing stuffed animals that had been delivered to his West Liberty Street residence via United Parcel Service were stolen from near his apartment door.

Dec. 10

Theft: Authorities charged Corey D. Matey, 21, of North Ward Avenue, and 22-year-old Stephan C. Doran of North Highland Avenue, with theft and criminal trespassing. The two Girard men were accused of stealing a Bluetooth headset and a cellphone case from MetroPCS, 110 N. State St.

Overdose: Officers responded to a possible drug overdose in the 300 block of Plymouth Avenue, where they reported finding a woman passed out in a car. Firefighters administered Naloxone to her to reverse or block the effects of opioids before the victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for an evaluation, a police report stated.

Dec. 11

Domestic violence: Jhveeti R. Street, 31, of Ohio Avenue, Girard, was charged with the crime after his girlfriend alleged Street had thrown her down a flight of stairs, then struck and choked her during an argument. The victim suffered a swollen cheek, injuries to her arms and legs and cuts to her hand, police alleged.

Theft: A Hazel Street woman noticed a $50 laser light had been removed from her yard.

Dec. 12

Theft: A man reported about $2,000 worth of equipment stolen from his business in the 1000 block of South State Street.

Criminal mischief: Someone in the 200 block of Hazel Street slashed all of a car’s tires, which resulted in a $600 damage estimate.

Dec. 13

Harassment: An Ella Street woman said she’s received a large volume of calls from various loan companies who apparently are seeking another person.

Dec. 14

Arrest: Youngstown police handed to Girard authorities Joshua A. Minor, no age given, of Market Street, Youngstown, who was wanted on a warrant.

CANFIELD

Nov. 23

Theft: A cordless drill and case were stolen from a construction site. The tool was recovered and returned to the owner in the 300 block of S.Briarcliff Drive. Police arrested Robert Judy, 47, of Erskine Avenue, Boardman, on a theft charge.

Nov. 30

Theft: Police arrested John Link Sizemore, 47, of Conneaut Lake, Pa., on charges of theft and possessing criminal tools.

Dec. 1

Warrant: Police arrested Robert Swan, 50, of Akron, arrested on a warrant, not Ronald Swan of Cuyahoga Falls, as was previously reported.

Dec. 6

Harassment: A report of harassment by way of unwanted mail was made at a home in the 400 block of South Broad Street. The mailings ceased after the report was made, police said.

Dec. 8

Theft: Police arrested Mark Watkins, 51, of Purdue Avenue, Austintown, on four counts of theft in a case of employee theft at Giant Eagle, 525 E. Main St.

Dec. 10

Warrant: Police arrested Sammy Anderson, 21, of Aldrich Drive, Austintown, on a Canfield Mayor’s Court warrant for failure to appear.

AUSTINTOWN

Dec. 5

Vandalism: A delivery truck was damaged at United Freezer, 650 N. Meridian Road.

Breaking and entering: A $700 router was stolen from a home in the 6000 block of New Road.

Counterfeit currency: A counterfeit $10 bill was passed at BP Fast Trac, 890 N. Canfield-Niles Road.

Theft: Unidentified males stole pop, beer and a video at from Marc’s,4755 Mahoning Ave.

Warrant: Police arrested James Allen, 35, of Winchester Avenue on a warrant for drug possession out of Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.

Robbery: A purse and money were taken from a home in the 4000 block of Rhode Island Drive.

Dec. 6

Warrant: Police arrested James Sheets, 30, Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, on a warrant for theft.

Falsification: Police issued a summons to Nakeia Hall, 34, of Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, on a charge of falsification.

Burglary: Jewelry and cash were taken from a shome in the 400 block of South Raccoon Road. Police said there were no signs of forced entry.

Felonious assault: Two victims were threatened with a knife, Taser and pepper spray in the 1000 block of Compass West.

Theft: Police arrested David Dorbish, 40, of Wendover Circle on a charge of theft. Police accused him of taking a $15.99 package of rib-eye steaks from Rulli Bros., 4331 Kirk Road.

Theft by deception: A contractor failed to perform work at a home in the 1000 block of Countryside Drive.

Dec.7

Criminal damaging: Tires were slashed on a vehicle parked at a home in the 70 block of Evans Avenue.

Theft: Electronics were stolen from the TA Travel Center, 5400 Seventy-Six Drive.

Theft: Thirty dollars was stolen from a purse at a home in the 100 block of Carnegie Avenue.

Domestic violence: Police arrested Thomas Carelly, 44, of Countryside Drive on the charge.

Dec. 8

Theft by deception: A scam was reported at a home in the 4000 block of Westchester Drive.

Burglary: Money and household items were stolen from and damage was done to a residence in the 500 block of North Four Mile Run Road.

Telecommunications harassment: A son was contacting a mother who did not want the contact at a home in the 4000 block of Shadow Oak Drive.

Recovered property: A wallet was recovered at a home in the 3000 block of Meander Reserve Circle.

Theft: A Coach purse was stolen from Regal Cinema, 6020 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: A wallet and cash were stolen from Belleria Pizza, 3460 S. Meridian Road.

Theft: Chinese food was stolen from a home in the 50 block of Westminster Avenue.

Theft: Police arrested Ashley Miller, 28, of West Judson Avenue, Youngstown, and Shawna Tarver, 25, of East Boston Avenue, Youngstown, on theft charges. Police accused them of taking merchandise from the JCPenney store, 6000 Mahoning Ave.

Dec. 9

Drug offense: Police issued a summons to Matthew Tedil, 32, North Main Street, on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, and arrested Jason Stines, 32, of Hopkins Road, Youngstown, on a Youngstown warrant for possession of drug-abuse instruments and township charges of possession of heroin, drug paraphernalia and drug abuse instruments.

Dec. 10

Warrant: Police arrested Sammy Anderson, 21,of Aldrich Road on a warrant out of Canfield Mayor’s Court for failure to appear on a traffic charge and two other unspecified warrants from Youngstown and the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office.

Theft: Several items were stolen from a truck parked at a home in the 4000 block of Lanterman Road.

Drug offense: Police issued a summons to Samantha Petrony, 30, of Canfield Road on charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments.

Theft: Police arrested Amber DeCaprio, 24, of Westchester Drive on a theft charge. Police accused her of taking $36.48 in merchandise from Walmart, 6001 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: Police issued a summons to Tara Talbert, 33, of Royal Mall, Niles, on charges of possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, falsification, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Dec. 11

Breaking and entering: A lock was taken and entry was gained in a patio area at Tractor Supply,6225 Mahoning Ave.

Attempted auto theft: Two U-Haul vehicles had their steering columns and ignitions damaged at Lube Stop, 5010 Mahoning Ave.

Recovered property: A box truck was stolen and later recovered at Sears, 6009 Mahoning Ave.
