Jermaine Tarver, 23, of Roosevelt Avenue in Youngstown got four years in prison this week for robbing a food delivery driver who used his own gun to shoot Tarver several times, causing serious injuries.
Tarver pleaded guilty before Judge Peter Kontos of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to felony robbery and got a four-year prison sentence.
Liberty police said a delivery man from Main Moon restaurant on Belmont Avenue was trying to deliver food to a home on Fifth Avenue in Liberty at 7:45 p.m. Nov. 29, 2015, when Tarver approached him with a gun.
Tarver told the driver to put the food and his money in the driver’s car. The driver used his own gun and fired at Tarver, hitting him several times. Tarver also fired but didn’t hit the delivery driver, police said.
Tarver was still at the scene when police arrived, and he told police that he had been robbed, Capt. Toby Meloro of the Liberty Police Department said.
The delivery driver had left the scene when police arrived, but police interviewed him later. Tarver was a suspect in another Liberty pizza-shop robbery and others at two Youngstown pizza shops, Meloro said.
Tarver spent three to four months in the hospital recovering from the injuries, Meloro said.
