Wednesday, August 24, 2016

WEST CHESTER, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a man injured when his SUV collided with a train in southwestern Ohio has died.

A statement from West Chester Township police says 70-year-old Rakan Shteiwi died from injuries received in the crash Tuesday afternoon at a railroad crossing on state Route 747 in Butler County.

The statement says the Liberty Township man was ejected from his SUV when it was struck by the CSX train. Police say drugs and alcohol weren’t factors in the crash north of Cincinnati.

Police say rail crossing gates were functioning properly at the time of the collision about 1:30 p.m.

Police Sgt. Todd Campbell has said he didn’t know what the train was transporting or the number of cars on the train.

A message seeking comment was left today at CSX offices.
