Man snags rare bright blue lobster – 2nd time in decades
PLYMOUTH, Mass.
A Massachusetts man has made a rare catch, snagging a bright blue lobster. Even rarer? It’s not the first time he’s caught one.
Jan Nickerson tells The Associated Press her husband, Wayne, let out a loud exclamation after spotting a bright blue lobster in his catch recently. Nickerson says her husband also caught one decades ago.
Blue lobsters are rare. The oft-cited odds of catching one are 1 in 2 million. But no one knows for sure.
Jan Nickerson says they’re keeping the lobster, nicknamed Bleu, in a holding tank. She hopes to donate it to Boston’s New England Aquarium, where several colored lobsters are on display.
Aquarium media relations director Tony LaCrosse calls the bright blue lobster “just spectacular” and says they may be interested if they have space.
Doctor to return library book overdue from the ’70s
CHARLESTON, W.Va.
A Florida doctor is returning a long-overdue book that he checked out from a West Virginia library and donating $500.
WCHS-TV reports that as a child in the mid-1970s, Dr. Michael Kelly checked out “So You Want To Be a Doctor” from the Kanawha County Library.
Kelly, a graduate of Charleston High School, is now a successful plastic surgeon in Miami and owns Miami Plastic Surgery.
Kelly told the news station that he recently found the book in a bookshelf at his home and is “extremely embarrassed” that it has been checked out for so long.
Library officials say Kelly planned to return the book along with a check to show gratitude for his success. Kelly says he hopes his story will inspire the children of Charleston to follow their dreams.
German cop hops on kid’s bike to pursue, nab suspect
BERLIN
Four wheels bad, two wheels good.
That’s what German police must have thought when their car got stuck on a narrow path while pursuing a moped-riding suspect. Rather than give up, one of the officers jumped on a kid’s bike and successfully chased down and arrested the 27-year-old suspect.
Police say the suspect, who had evaded a traffic stop in the southern German town of Bamberg, was found to be carrying drugs and driving under the influence.
Police spokeswoman Silke Gahn said the officer, after the arrest, gratefully returned the 22-inch bike he had borrowed.
Associated Press
