Teen charged in arson

HERMITAGE, PA.

A Hickory Township teen has been booked into the Lawrence County Jail on multiple charges after police concluded he intentionally set fire to his home while people were inside, including family members.

The 15-year-old boy faces charges including attempted homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated arson and recklessly endangering another person. He is being charged as an adult.

Officers responded to the structure fire at Maitland Lane in Lawrence County at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Pennsylvania State Police report that the teen’s mom, Rosanna Rodgers, 34; her husband, Herbert D. Rodgers, 35; and their 11-year-old daughter suffered serious burns and are now in stable condition at a Pittsburgh hospital.

Police said another woman, Melanie Clark, 32, and her 3-year-old daughter were also inside the home, but were not injured.

Officials join protest

WARREN

The Trumbull County commissioners have joined Vienna Township trustees and the organization Frackfree Mahoning Valley in opposing the licensing of a proposed injection well on state Route 193 just south of the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. The commissioners sent a letter to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources on Aug. 11, objecting to giving the owner, KTCA Holdings LLC of Oklahoma City, Okla., a permit to operate.

“Our research suggests that injection-well activity has been associated with earthquakes throughout the country and poses a significant issue to our citizens,” the letter says.

It is signed by all three commissioners.
