Animal sanctuary open house Sept. 11

RAVENNA

Happy Trails Animal Sanctuary, 5623 New Milford Road, will host an open house from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sept. 11. The event is free, but there is no parking at the sanctuary due to space constraints. Complimentary shuttle parking will be provided at Ravenna High School, 6589 N. Chestnut St., with large shuttle buses running throughout the day.

For information, call 330-296-5914 or 330-212-9313. Happy Trails is a nonprofit that rescues, rehabilitates and provides an adoption program for abused, abandoned and neglected farm animals in Ohio and any other state requesting its help.

Kids area closing

The children’s area in the Boardman Public Library, 7680 Glenwood Ave., will be closed Thursday, as early-literacy equipment is being installed inside and outside the building. Early-literacy areas are being created inside the library and on the outdoor patio this week. The library itself will remain open throughout the installation.

Veterans meeting for Aug. 30 canceled

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission will not meet Aug. 30 to enable veterans organizations to prepare for Canfield Fair exhibits, said VSC Executive Director Susan Krawchyk. Commission offices at 345 Oak Hill Ave. will be open for business as usual. The commission normally meets at 9 a.m. Tuesdays in its offices.
