Youngstown firefighters battled blazes on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN — Firefighters battled blazes at vacant houses late Monday evening and early this morning on the city’s South Side.

Both were listed on fire department reports as intentionally set.

The first, reported at 11:15 p.m. Monday at 722 E. Florida Ave., was confined to an attached garage and enclosed breezeway, with the garage being destroyed.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury there but did not require treatment.

The other fire was at 2:27 a.m. in an unsecured house at 147 Balsam Court, where no injuries were reported.
