Storms down trees, wires in tri-cpunty area today

A series of thunder, lightning and rainstorms, some accompanied by damaging winds, came through parts of Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties this afternoon and evening, causing scattered power outages, mostly in northern Trumbull.

The Trumbull County 911 Center reported receiving calls about trees and wires down throughout the central, northern and eastern parts of the county: Calls came from Warren, a tree on a house on Northfield Street; Mecca Township, state Route 46, tree down; Bristol Township, Hyde-Oakfield Road, tree down; and similar calls from Howland, Champion and Brookfield townships.

According to FirstEnergy’s website, as of about 9 p.m., fewer than 464 customer outages remained in Trumbull and fewer that five each in Columbiana and Mahoning counties. At the storm’s peak, the National Weather Service in Cleveland issued a flood advisory for northern Trumbull, southern Ashtabula, and Cuyahoga counties between 3:22 and 5:15 p.m.
