Poland Dobbins celebrated their first Mother Son Night on April 7.

The theme for the night was “My Son is a Superhero” and the school was filled with several heroic activities. The students could participate in a Spiderman web crawl, take a picture in the Batcave, learn Taekwondo and much more.

Lori Casey, the chairperson of the event, spent several weeks working with other PTO members, parents and volunteers to make the night a success. Between 120-125 children attended the event with their mothers.

“We found some great inspirational superhero comments that we hung around the building, it’s able to build confidence, have fun, do some quality family time and camaraderie with their classmates as well,” said Casey.

Peg Flynn, from the Green Team, put on a presentation for the mothers and sons in a giant bubble. The bubble, represented the ocean and Flynn talked about pollutants and how water is affected by our everyday activities. Poland Union and North principal Mike Masucci is the one who lent the bubble to Dobbins.

Master Tom Ritchie, from the Martial Arts Training Center, led a demonstration for the students and taught them Taekwondo. The students were eager to learn new moves like a superhero.

“This is the first year Dobbins has done a mother-son event. It’s something we had done at North in the past. It’s nice to incorporate some activities now that we’ve become one. Now we can bring our traditions from all the areas together,” said Casey.

Thrilled with the outcome, Dobbins is looking forward to continuing the Mother Son Night and making it an annual event.
