First Boardman junior varsity invitational is a hit


The first ever Boardman Junior Varsity Softball Invitational Tournament was hosted over the spring break week. The tournament included eight teams from the surrounding areas. The Boardman junior varsity team rose to the occasion and won the tournament.

In a game against Poland, Ashley Saxton went three for four at the plate with a home run and four rbi’s, while Jenny Taraszewski pitched five innings with eight strikeouts. The final score was 12-3.

Boardman defeated Newton Falls with a final score of 11-3. In this game, Vanessa Roush went three for four at the plate and Emily Humphrey was 2-4 to pace the Spartans. Jenny Taraszewski pitched a strong 14 strikeout game while banging out three hits to help her cause.

The game against Brookfield was a firm win for Boardman with the final score of 23-4. Vanessa Roush again had a strong outing at the plate with a three for three performance, while Melissa Davanzo also was three for three and Logan Menosky was three for four. Emily Humphrey and Jenny Taraszewski combined on the mound to give up only three runs to the warriors.

Additional games included two games against Lowellville (Boardman with wins of 12-2 and 8-0) and two games against Cleveland Heights (Boardman with wins of 20-1 and 19-0).

In the championship game, Boardman took the win against Newton Falls with a score of 4-0. In a cold shortened game, Vanessa Roush paced the Lady Spartans at the plate going two for two. Jenny Taraszewski did not give up a hit in two innings of work.
