Dar Hosta James visited Dobbins Elementary on April 11 and 12.

James, an author and illustrator, spoke to the students of Dobbins Elementary and provided them with an activity.

The students in third grade did “squish squash poetry books” and the students in fourth grade did “alliteration is always awesome.”

Students raffle winners had the opportunity to eat lunch with James.

“If you can reinforce anything they’re doing in their classroom, then that makes everyone happy,” said James.

On April 11, James gave a school-wide assembly before a writing workshop. The workshop on April 11, with the third-grade students, consisted of a six-page, handmade poetry book.

The alliteration activity the students in fourth grade created consisted of coming up with nouns, verbs and adjectives to create an alliterative sentence.

After the students made their sentences, they used different colored and patterned construction paper to form a paper collage to go with their sentences.

“If they don’t have fun, then I shouldn’t be here. It should always be fun,” said James.
