Boardman boys track team improves regular season record


The Boardman boys track team improved its regular season record to 4-0 with a 118-33-21 victory over the Ursuline Fighting Irish and Cardinal Mooney Cardinals on April 6.

The Spartans opened the meet with a victory by junior Nick Digiacomo, senior Adam Deeley, sophomore Nick Lascola and junior Nathaniel Ams in the 4x800 meter relay. The next event, the 110-meter hurdles, the Spartans took three of the four places with senior Nick Cessna second, sophomore Gavin Yi third and senior Jacob Rauschenberg in fourth. In the 100-meter dash, senior Brendon Lucas took first and sophomore Ethan Himes was third.

“Tonight the weather went from pleasant to awful really quickly,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “Our guys hung tough and put up some impressive numbers in some brutal running weather.”

In the 1600-meter run, senior Nathan Hadley placed first with Digiacomo second and Lascola fourth. The Spartan 4x200 relay team of junior Kobe Adu-Poku, sophomore Justice Jama, senior Canon Carlile and senior Kris Santilli took first. Also, the 4x100 relay team of freshmen Manny Perez, Josh Rodriguez, Nick Torres and Che Trevena finished first. Deeley placed second in the 400-meter run - he was followed by senior Jarod Wolfe in third. In the 300-meter hurdles, the Spartans took three scoring spots with Cessna in first, Carlile second and Rauschenberg fourth.

In the 800-meter run, Hadley was first and senior Brett Brunko placed fourth. The 200-meter dash was won by Lucas with Himes in second. The next event was the 3200-meter run which was won by Ams with junior

Jack Swavel second, junior Matt Maroni third and sophomore Jimmy Lagese fourth. The 4x400 relay team of Perez, Carlile, Lucas and Wolfe took first.

In the field events, the Spartans took second, third and fourth in the long jump with the leaps of junior Richard Fisher, sophomore Noah Massie and junior Don Lewis. In the high jump Jama was second, Fisher third and Trevena took fourth. In the discus, junior George Wallace took second with senior Shawn Devlin third, while in the shot put senior Markeese Haynes took first, senior Jason Jama was second and Wallace was fourth. Finally, in the pole vault, Fisher was first, Lewis second, Sophomore Mark Moradian third and junior Dan Raver was fourth.

The BW-3 Track Meet MVP went to senior Brendon Lucas for his three first place finishes.
