Boardman

Police charged two people with operating a vehicle while impaired over the weekend.

Police observed Kyle Rogers, 23, of Meadowbrook Avenue, in a car driving recklessly as well as having an expired license plate and pulled him over on Thalia Avenue about 10 a.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

When police spoke with him, Rogers reportedly spoke with slurred speech and had alcohol on his breath. He failed a field-sobriety test. Police also gave Rogers a breath-analysis test, and he tested at .184 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit in Ohio.

He will be arraigned on the OVI charge and for driving with a suspended license at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Mahoning County Area Court.

Police charged Demetrius Jackson, 20, of Mistletoe Avenue, about 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning when officers were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. Route 224 and South Avenue. A vehicle had stopped in the middle of the intersection, blocking traffic. Police reportedly found Jackson asleep at the wheel.

Officers reported a strong smell of alcohol coming from him. Jackson failed a number of field-sobriety tests. His breath-analysis test of .145 percent also exceeded the legal limit.

Police also cited him for impeding the flow of traffic. His arraignment is set at 8:30 a.m. today in court.
